Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving

CEDDPicture a nation without drunk driving. MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving is a bold initiative with the ambitious, but attainable, goal of eliminating drunk driving once and for all through the four comprehensive and coordinated strategies outlined below. The Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving kicked off in November 2006 with the goal of eliminating drunk driving permanently. The Campaign has four essential elements:

High-visibility law enforcement, including sobriety checkpoints

Ignition interlock devices for all convicted drunk drivers Advanced vehicle technologies that will prevent drunk driving

Public support

The national Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. impaired driving crackdown is a comprehensive impaired driving prevention program organized by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that focuses on combining high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity. The national kick-off will be held on August 16 and the campaign will run through September 4, 2006. This year's effort is supported by $11 million in paid national advertising to help put everyone on notice that if they drive over the limit they will be arrested. MADD Programs

MADD's National Programs Department specializes in developing and maintaining public awareness programs at the chapter, state, and national level, involving the community as a whole in supporting MADD's mission. The department continually looks for new ways for MADD to reach a diverse population, with particular attention focused on helping youth. For more information click here.

Food Lion has a great program that they are using to give back to their local communities.  Mothers Against Drunk Driving's Virginia State Office has been registered with the program and it is easy to get online and help MADD support its mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.  All you have to do is register your MVP Card with the LionShop & Share program at www.foodlion.com.  The LionShop & Share icon is located to the left of the web page under My Food Lion. Register your MVP card at the top and choose MADD Virginia and District of Columbia as your organization to support.  Make sure you search under Richmond, VA.  Every time you use your MVP card, MADD Virginia and District of Columbia will get a portion of your purchase!!  It's a quick and easy way to help!  Pass this along!
